The outcome of the election for the Democratic nomination to represent Georgia’s 10th Congressional District awaits a recount.
With several candidates in the race and no candidate receiving more than 50 percent of the vote, the race was already set for a June 21 runoff between Tabitha Johnson-Green and Jessica Fore. However, third-place finisher Phyllis Hatcher lagged behind Fore by only 137 votes, leading Hatcher to call for a recount, which must be completed by 5pm Friday.
The 10th District, which includes Athens and surrounding counties, will also see a runoff on the Republican side. Trucking executive Mike Collins and former state lawmaker and Dekalb County CEO Vernon Jones were the top two finishers in a crowded GOP primary on May 24.
