Over 3,000 People Gathered in Athens Sunday to Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride

Over 3,000 people donned in bright colors excitedly flocked to the streets of downtown Athens on Sunday to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride. This year’s celebration was organized Athens Pride and Queer collective and marked the 24th year celebrating Pride in the community.

Those marching in the parade spanned all ages and backgrounds with appearances from Athens Area DSA, Classic City Rollergirls, and members of the Boybutante AIDS Foundation.

Festivities continued at Lay Park Community Center as the crowd gathered to enjoy barbeque and dance to performances Exquisite Gender, Tears for the Dying and Convict Julie.

Athens Pride and Queer Collective said in a tweet, “Our hearts are so full. This year, it was for our youth-- to remind every LGBTQIA2s+ child know they matter and are loved."
