Alissa Eckert, Dan Higgins

As the summer heat invites people to exchange their masks for swimsuits, COVID-19 cases increase in Athens and surrounding areas.

Between June 15 to June 29, Athens-Clarke County found a total of 405 cases of COVID-19, that’s an additional 116 cases from the previous two weeks.

Surrounding counties also had a rise in cases with Jackson County reporting 237 cases, Madison County reporting 60 cases, Oglethorpe County reporting 24 cases, and Oconee County reporting 87 cases.

Georgia reported 30,373 cases in the last two weeks, which is 1,722 more cases than they reported in the previous two weeks.
