Athens-Clarke County runs a high risk of community transmission of COVID-19 according to the CDC’s newest calculations.
In the past week, the CDC documented 207 cases per 100,000 Athenians, attributing 5% of in-patient hospitalizations to COVID-19.
At COVID-19’s current risk to the community, the CDC recommends that residents take precautions to safeguard our community’s health and protect immunocompromised individuals from its spread. To limit this surge of cases, the CDC asks Athenians to wear a mask indoors and on public transportation, get tested if they present symptoms, and take additional precautions if they are at a high risk of severe complications.
