The Georgia Department of Health reported 20,438 new cases of covid this week, slightly down from the 29,524 confirmed cases reported on July 27th. Athens-Clarke County also showed a slight decrease in new cases, with 203 cases reported this week compared to 274 cases reported last Wednesday. Despite this slight dip, cases are still steadily on the rise in Georgia, having increased by 13% in the past two weeks. Hospitalizations and deaths have jumped by 10% statewide. 56% of Georgia residents are fully vaccinated and 22% have received a booster.
