The Elbert County Board of Commissioners voted on Monday night to give the broken remains of the Georgia Guidestones to the Elberton Granite Association, who does not plan to rebuild the monument.

Commission Chairman Lee Vaughn said that he hopes someone will reconstruct the monument in the future.

The 5 acres of land where the monument once stood will be returned to the previous owner, as decided by the commission.

The GBI continues to investigate the July 6 early morning bombing, where a suspect has not yet been identified.
