Nursing students at Athens Technical College will have access to advanced technology and renovated facilities at the Walton Campus, where classes will begin August 23rd. The incoming cohort will find brand new classrooms and simulation labs which will allow for interactive teaching techniques to enhance the existing curriculum.
Funding for the program came in part from Piedmont Healthcare, which intends to hire graduates from the Athens Tech program. The program emerges amidst a critical shortage of registered nurses nationwide, which has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Endorsers of the program, like Piedmont Walton CEO Larry Ebert, hope the new location will improve access to professional training for students in the east metro area, and ultimately draw skilled nurses into a workforce where help is desperately needed.
