Kemp extends suspension of state's gas tax

Governor Brian Kemp has has extended an executive order suspending collection of the state tax on motor fuel, as well as a companion order declaring a supply chain state of emergency. Both orders are effective through November 11, 2022.

In a release, Kemp stated the decision was influenced by the severe damage in neighboring states of Florida and South Carolina caused by Hurricane Ian, and the possibility that the southeast could experience further supply chain issues and higher demands on fuel supplies.

According to AAA, at 62 cents below the national average, Georgia has one of the lowest gas prices in the nation.

Georgians have saved approximately $800 million at the pump since that tax was first suspended in March of this year, according to the governor's office.
