AthFest announces 2022-2023 grant recipients

AthFest Educates

Athfest Educates announced its grants for the 2022-2023 school year.

The nonprofit awarded nearly $47,000 to local K-12 educators and youth development specialists. The grants include more than $26,000 for music and arts programs and nearly $20,000 for instruments and equipment, with the remainder going to educator professional development.

The grants are funded through individual donors and grants to the organization, as well as profits from the annual Athfest Music and Arts Festival and AthHalf half marathon and 5K. To date, Athfest Educates has awarded $570,000 in grants.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
