The Clarke County Board of Elections met Thursday evening, to consider adding a polling location for advanced voting.
In a unanimous decision, members voted to add the Athens-Clarke County Library as an additional site for early voting. On Monday, the board approved adding Sunday, November 27 as a weekend day of voting, however the library was not included as a site. Board Chair Rocky Raffle says the facility is usually the second most popular voting precinct during advanced voting, aside from the downtown location and is important in presenting opportunities for citizens to cast their ballots.
“As I’ve said before, we need to provide as much access to the polls as we can,” according to Raffle. “It’s important for the polls to stay open as late as possible and open as early as possible, given the availability of poll workers.”
Early voting ends December 2nd. In addition to the library, the other advanced voting sites are the downtown office, the Miriam Moore Community Center, the Athens-Clarke County Extension Center and the ACC Tennis Center.
