The U.S. House has passed a bill by Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff that would combat misconduct and abuse in federal prisons.
Ossoff’s bipartisan bill to fight crime, corruption and abuse in federal prisons passed Congress and is heading to the President’s desk.
The Prison Camera Reform Act will require the Federal Bureau of Prisons to upgrade outdated, broken security systems. Survivors of sexual abuse in federal facilities testified in a hearing Tuesday about BOP employees assaulting them in areas where they knew there was not camera coverage.
The bill’s passage comes one day after Ossoff unveiled the results of an 8-month long, bipartisan investigation.
The Senate passed the bill last fall.
