Clarke is among the top Georgia counties in COVID booster percentage

Athens-Clarke County is one of the top-performing counties in the state in terms of the percentage of residents who have received a bivalent COVID-19 booster, but even so, the number of people with the new bivalent boosters is very low.

With about 12 percent of the population over age five having received a bivalent booster, Athens-Clarke County is far ahead of most counties in the state. The counties with the highest percentage of people who have received the booster are Dekalb and Fayette with around 14.5 percent, according to CDC data.

The bivalent booster provides protection from both the original strain of COVID-19 as well as the Omicron variant, according to the CDC.

COVID-19 transmission in Athens-Clarke County as of last week was at a medium level, according to CDC data.
