Courthouse reopens after bedbug infestation

Gabriella Audi/Red & Black

County officials continue to deal with a beg bug infestation at the Clarke County Courthouse. The facility is open today after being closed again Monday for treatment.

A Western Circuit Chief Superior Court judge over the weekend cancelled all jury trials on Monday and other non-judicial offices were also closed. The courthouse was closed last Wednesday through Friday after bedbugs were found on three floors of the building on Washington Street in downtown Athens.

Some judicial offices continue to accept electronic filings and a judge is available for emergency orders.

While most of the courthouse is open today, Municipal Court on the first floor will continue to be closed with limited access to offices.
