As of noon on Wednesday, a total of 280 early votes have been cast in the race to fill District 2 Commission’s vacant seat. 6 out of 18 absentee ballots mailed to voters have been returned to the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections.
Early voting began on Feb. 27 and ends on Friday, March 17. Election day, and the last day to vote is Tuesday, March 21.
Candidates vying for the seat are Melissa Link, a former ACC commissioner, and Kirrena Gallagher, a former school board member. The commission seat was left vacant following former commissioner Mariah Parker’s resignation in August 2022.
