Georgia Among Top Tier States for Public Health Emergency Preparedness

A new report on public health emergency preparedness finds less than half of U.S. states are considered highly prepared. Ready or Not: Protecting the Public’s Health from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism, has tracked the nation’s preparedness since 2003.

Dara Lieberman is the Director of Government Relations at the Trust for America’s Health or TFAH. She says Georgia was one of 19 states in the top tier. Georgia has shown improvement when it comes to water safety and an improvement in hospitals meeting top patient safety standards.

In addition, Georgia is also accredited in public health and emergency management.

According to that report, more resources need to be devoted to public health across the nation.
