The Clarke County School District is considering changes to school schedules for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The CCSD has assembled a study committee in response to data that revealed that the district is unable to provide high-level transportation services to all students under the current schedule.
The data revealed that middle and high school morning on-time drop-off rates were 82% and 75%, rates far below industry standards.
This can be attributed to current route times being too close together, which does not allow for error if a problem arises. The current model also does not allow for flexibility if a driver resigns, a problem made worse by a national bus driver shortage.
Taking those challenges into account, the committee favored two proposals that include earlier arrival and dismissal times for students. The district is looking for a solution that raises on-time drop-off rates, as well as student instructional time.
The current proposals aren’t set and are subject to change. The current proposal can be viewed at https://www.clarke.k12.ga.us/. The district is accepting feedback on these options through April 30, 2023 at the email feedback@clarke.k12.ga.us
