Athens Clarke County to hold community forums on housing affordability

The Athens-Clarke County Government will be holding community forums to receive input on solutions to the housing affordability challenges faced by Athens’ residents.

Housing affordability in Athens has been decreasing due to increasing poverty, rising rent and housing costs, as well as factors particular to Athens, such as lack of land to easily develop.

The community forums will be held on April 26 at the Athens-Clarke County Library from 4-6:30 p.m. and May 9 at the Athens Community Council on Aging from 10-11:30 a.m. Residents can also leave online feedback on the ACC website until May 31.

The information collected will go towards establishing their final Affordable Housing Investment Strategy, which will be presented to the Mayor and Commission for a vote this fall.
