Clarke County's eviction prevention program could be coming back

Athens Housing Advocacy Team

Clarke County’s beleaguered Eviction Prevention Program may be coming back, with a new service provider.

The program was suspended last fall after Athens-Clarke County staff found what they characterized as “financial irregularities” in how the program was being administered by Athenian First Development Corporation. The program’s suspension left dozens of renters in limbo.

Now, Family Promise and the Ark are asking ACC commissioners for $900,000 to restart the program and possibly expand it. County documentation says the newly-revamped program, if approved by commissioners, could help as many as 200 families.

Commissioners are slated to vote on the measure at their Tuesday evening meeting.
