Senate leaders are pushing to keep pace with rapidly advancing AI at today’s Human Rights Subcommittee hearing on the implications of artificial intelligence on human rights.

Subcommittee chairman John Ossoff released a video preview of the hearing featuring an AI-generated voice impersonating himself, offering questions about the “existential risks” of artificial intelligence and emphasizing the need for better understanding of these sophisticated tools.

Senator Blackburn, a ranking member of the subcommittee, commented on the responsibility for the United States government to "serve as a leader in protecting human rights as we enter the AI era" in preparation for the hearing.

The hearing follows last month’s Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing which addressed the benefits of AI as an aid to American innovation as well as the ethical concerns surrounding it.
