A petition filed by opponents of Atlanta’s planned public safety training center, to put the matter on the November ballot, has been approved, and organizers can begin collecting signatures.
The Cop City Vote coalition recently filed suit against the municipal clerk’s office because the ballot option had not been approved. Former Athens Councilperson Mariah Parker is a plaintiff in the lawsuit and the original petition filer. Organizers will need to collect over 70,000 signatures to bring it to voters.
The group is using as a guide a recent referendum that took place in Camden County that halted a proposed spaceport…a referendum that was upheld by the Georgia Supreme Court.
