Census Bureau: Media age goes up

US Census Bureau

New Census Bureau data reveals the median age of Americans has reached a record 38.9 years old. It was 34 in 1990 and 28 in 1970.

The new data also broke down median age by U.S. county. In the greater Athens area, Oconee County had the youngest median age at 36.6 years of age. Clarke at 40.2, Barrow the oldest at 41.2, Madison and Jackson counties at 40.9, Oglethorpe 40.8 and Morgan at 39.5. Statewide, the median age in Georgia is 37.5 years.

Nationwide, Maine had the oldest median age at nearly 45. Utah, the youngest at 32. Experts say the age is climbing because birthrates have been declining for the past two decades.
