Downtown Athens traffic will get more congested for the next couple of months as an emergency drainage project begins.
The project will cause Oconee Street to be closed from Wednesday to early September.
The 5-way intersection of East Broad Street, Oconee Street, and Thomas Street will also face a brief and temporary reconfiguration for a manhole adjustment. All eastbound and westbound lanes of Oconee Street will be detoured. All northbound and southbound lanes at Foundry Street will be closed.
The Georgia Department of Transportation and contractor Vertical Earth will upgrade and replace the 130-year-old culvert near the Farmer’s Exchange building.
