ACC Coroner will not seek reelection

Athens-Clarke County Government

After sixteen years on the job, Athens Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson says he will not seek reelection in 2024. Wilson says the demands of the job have grown tremendously since he took office in 2008… from 120 calls a year to over 400 today.

Wilson, who turned 80 this year, lost his wife of 58 years in June, another factor he says, contributed to the decision.

Wilson was named 2013 coroner of the year by the Georgia Coroner’s Association. He says he hopes announcing his decision now will give others plenty of time to consider a run for the office.
