Severe storms blanketed the Athens area Thursday night, knocking out power to thousands, according to Georgia Power. As of early Friday morning, numerous traffic lights were still out, and sections of some roads remained blocked by downed trees.
Georgia Power’s outage map showed thousands of homes still without electricity as of around 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
