Georgia men's golf alum Brian Harman achieved a historic victory in the 151st Open Championship, winning his first major with an impressive 13-under final score. Harman finished with a total score of 271, securing a six-stroke lead over four players tied for second place, including fellow Bulldog alum Sepp Straka, making them the first players from the same school to finish first and second at The Open Championship in the same year.

Harman's journey to victory was marked by consistent and outstanding play. He made a significant jump on the second day, carding four straight birdies on the front nine and ending the round with an eagle on the 18th hole, establishing a five-stroke lead heading into the third round. Despite challenging weather conditions on Sunday, Harman maintained his composure and finished one-under, ultimately earning the coveted Claret Jug.

This win places Harman in esteemed company alongside Bubba Watson as the second Georgia golfer to win one of the four major tournaments. Harman's victory also marks his third Professional Golf Association event win, with a previous best major finish of tied-second at the 2017 US Open.

On the other hand, Sepp Straka's performance resulted in a tied-second finish at seven-under, his second top-10 finish in a major, having previously secured a tied-seventh position at the 2023 PGA Championship in May. As a 2016 All-American, Straka now boasts five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in his career, played over 23 events.
