AADM to Host “Stop Cop City” Info Session & Community Discussion

The Athens-Anti Discrimination Movement is hosting a “Stop Cop City” information session and community discussion Tuesday evening. The gathering is aimed at residents, community organizers, and justice reform advocates who oppose the construction of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, referred to as Cop City.
The $90 million facility will sit on an 85-acre plot of land owned by the City of Atlanta. Once complete, it will house and a mock city for urban police training, a burn building for fire service, and a shooting range.

Opponents are circulating a petition among Atlanta voters to allow voters to decide the fate of the facility. Supporters say it would replace inadequate training facilities and address difficulties in hiring and retaining officers.

The AADM meeting is 6 pm at the Athens-Clarke County Library. It will feature guest speaker Matthew Johnson. Johnson is an Atlanta organizer who has been heavily involved in the Stop Cop City movement, as well as with Atlanta's houseless population through his position as a minister at Church of the Common Ground.

AADM President and Co-founder Mokah-Jasmine Johnson spoke with WUGA about the event.
