New 'Safe Stories' Campaign Seeks to Reduce Gun Suicide Rates

End Family Fire

Two national organizations are working to reduce the gun suicide rate in the U.S. The End Family Fire program partnered with the AD Council for the recently released “Safe Stories” PSA campaign. Colleen Creighton is the director of End Family Violence for Brady. She says the campaign recommends storing all guns locked, unloaded and separate from ammunition.

Reba Rice Portwood is a mental health professional, who lost her son to gun suicide. She urges families and friends to seek counseling to cope in the aftermath of a gun suicide.

Georgia had 2,200 gun suicides in 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control. For more information, visit EndFamilyFire.org.
