The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office says it needs an additional $411,000 to meet unpaid medical bills for inmates at the Clarke County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the charges went unpaid by a contractor who managed health care for the jail and they date back several years. That contractor, Armor Correctional Health Services, is no longer being used by the jail. The largest single creditor is Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, to which the Sheriff’s Office owes some $217,000.

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are expected to vote on the $411,508 expenditure at a special called meeting on Tuesday.
