Athens Producers Create Audio Documentary About 'Hot Corner'

The creators of a new audio documentary sharing the history of and stories from Athens famed Hot Corner are inviting the Athens community to an event featuring clips from the series and discussion.

Broderick Flanigan, artist and community organizer, and Alexander ‘Aleck’ Stephens a PHd candidate at the university of Michigan, both raised in Athens, produced the Hot Corner series.

Flanigan. says there were more than 60 black-owned business in Hot Corner in its heyday. Stephens hopes students can learn about this part of the city’s history through the episodes.

The Athens Historical Society and Athens Regional Library are hosting the event which takes place Sunday, August, 20th at 3 pm. It is open to the public.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
