The board of Georgia's Department of Natural Resources approved Walter Rabon as the new department commissioner on Tuesday, effective immediately.
Rabon, who was nominated by Governor Brian Kemp, has served as Interim Commissioner to the Department of Natural Resources since July 1, following the departure of former Commissioner Mark Williams.
Rabon has worked with the DNR since 1993, starting as a Conservation Ranger, working his way up through Law Enforcement Division serving as a major before becoming Deputy Commissioner.
Governor Kemp praised Rabon's work in a press statement following the vote:
“Throughout his many years of service to the State of Georgia and our Department of Natural Resources, Walter Rabon has dedicated himself to the mission of protecting hardworking Georgians and their ability to enjoy our outdoor spaces,” said Kemp. “I look forward to DNR's continued success ensuring our state is a good steward of its natural resources as he continues to lead the department.”
