With a substantial snow storm hitting Athens this weekend, check here for updates on community closures and resources.

Road / Location Updates (Updated 2/1, 3:53 PM)

Major roads have improved significantly throughout the day and will continue to improve with the sunny weather, but not as quickly as they would if it weren't so cold.

Refreezing is likely overnight in areas that don't dry up, so in the morning of Mon., Feb. 2 go slow, allow plenty of time to travel, don't follow too closely, and watch for ice and black ice areas.

These roads were reported to have icy areas over Saturday evening through Sunday morning, but have been treated or closed or may have cleared. Use caution when traveling on them.

Burst and Frozen Pipe Information

Water service has been shut off and will not be restored until Tuesday morning, 2/3/2026.

Do not call 911 to report burst pipes. Contact the Public Utilities Department at 707-613-3495 or 706-613-3481 (after hours).

  • Immediately shut off the main water valve to your home.
  • If you need assistance shutting off the water main at the meter, contact the Public Utilities Department at 707-613-3495 or 706-613-3481 (after hours).
  • Residents living in multi-family complexes should contact their management company for assistance.
  • In preparation for winter weather, take the time to locate both your home's main water valve and the main water valve at your meter.
  • In the event of a frozen pipe, immediately shut off the main water valve to your home. You can try to slowly thaw pipes with a blow dryer or small space heater. Once thawed, slowly turn water back on and inspect pipes and joints for leaks.

For more information about burst or frozen pipes, and preparing your home for winter weather visit the Public Utilities Department's Winter Water Tips page
