Labor board approves union election to proceed at Creature Comforts brewery

Athens Banner-Herald

The National Labor Relations Board released a statement on Tuesday that an election can be scheduled for a union vote by employees of Creature Comforts brewery in Athens.

In January, Creature Comforts employees organized to form an independent union, the Brewing Union of Georgia. Union organizers said employees began to feel overwhelmed as the brewery continued to gain popularity in Athens and nationwide.

The Labor Relations Board held a hearing in February to address concerns about management interfering with union efforts according to Creature Comforts employees.

“We had a hearing to figure out what Creature Comfort workers were eligible to vote in the union election,” union spokesman Broderick Flanigan said Wednesday.

According to the union, management said that taproom and production employees were not appropriate employees in a union vote as they are “statutory supervisors.” The board ruled in favor of the union’s arguments.
