Health Experts Urge High-Risk Residents to get Flu Shot

The flu season is approaching, though according to the CDC, most flu activity usually peaks between December and February, however health experts are encouraging those who can, to get their flu shots as soon as possible.

The CDC states that in previous flu seasons, 9 out 0f 10 adults hospitalized I with flu had at least one underlying medical condition.

Dr. Jamie Rutland is pulmonary critical care physician and national volunteer medical spokesperson for the American Lung Association. Rutland says it’s critical that those with chronic conditions like asthma or heart disease, get vaccinated. He says the risk is worse for African Americans.
Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates there were between 27 – 54 million influenza cases and between 19,000 and 58,000 deaths due to the flu
