The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government wants to hear Athens community members’ input on how to improve the area over the next twenty years as a part of the Planning Department’s efforts to update the Athens-Clarke County Growth Concept Plan. Residents are encouraged to share their input on enhancing and growing areas of the community through group meetings, neighborhood walks, bus tours, and event booths scheduled across Athens over the next month.
The department’s group meetings will create an opportunity for residents of all ages to participate in an interactive activity to “literally build a vision for Athens-Clarke County’s shared future,” according to the county’s website. Planning Department staff will also lead six neighborhood walks and two bus tours to understand the current conditions in both historic neighborhoods and up-and-coming developments.
These initial community engagement events will act as the first steps in planning to develop the Athens community over the next two decades and will serve as the basis for the creation of the Future Land Use Plan for Athens-Clarke County.
These events will begin on September 21 and span through late October. Residents can pre-register for bus tours and see the full calendar of community input events at the Comprehensive Plan website at www.accgov.com/compplan or call 706-613-3515.
