The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has sentenced a woman to 15 years after she pleaded guilty to stealing funds from an organization that promotes ethical standards for law enforcement, courts, and local tax commissions.
The 42-year-old Melissa Branyon Tolbert, a former director of the Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia, was arrested last September after COAG officials reported several unauthorized transactions while Tolbert was employed with COAG from May 2018 to June 2022.
She pleaded guilty on Tuesday to 9 counts of felony theft charges and was sentenced to 3 years in prison then 12 years on probation, and a $5,000 fine.
