Jackson County SK Battery plant is laying off workers after rapid expansion

SK Battery America

The SK Battery plant in Jackson County is laying off workers after years of rapid expansion. The AJC reports the company confirmed the report but did not disclose how many workers were involved at the plant that manufactures lithium-ion batteries.

A company spokesman noted that the factory still has 3,000 employees which is more than the original staffing goals, but added the layoffs were needed because SK Battery is aligning production with current market demands. The cuts are also said to be related to improvements in the facilities that make some operations more efficient, requiring fewer employees.

SK Battery facilities in Jackson County supply batteries for Ford and Volkswagen EVs.
