Ex-UGA player on trial for alleged March 2021 Racetrac clerk murder

Athens-Clarke County

Trial is underway for a former UGA football player suspected of killing a Racetrac clerk in Oconee County in March of 2021. 24-year-old Ahkil Crumpton of Philadelphia is on trial in federal court at U.S. District Court in Athens for attempted robbery with the use of a firearm and violating a federal firearms purchase law.

Crumpton had originally been indicted for murder in federal court but following a court decision, the murder charge will now be tried in Superior Court in Oconee County.

With U.S. District Court Judge Tilman Self presiding, jurors were allowed to see videos of the suspect at the station including video where the robber shoot Elijah Wood in the chest, with Wood falling to the floor after he is shot. The shooter then flees the store. Testimony continues today.
