Austin Scott serves the House district that includes Valdosta, Tifton, and into parts of Macon. He is one of nine Republican representatives who have submitted a bid for Speaker after Ohio’s Jim Jordan was unable to gain enough party support in three rounds of voting.
Scott initially put his name in the running for House speaker against Jordan after Louisiana’s Steve Scalise dropped out of the race, but lost the nomination. An internal conference vote on the speaker nominees will be held Tuesday morning after a candidate forum this evening.
