Unemployment down in Athens from 3.1% to 2.7% from this year last year

Unemployment is down in Athens, according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson, with the recorded rate dropping by seven-tenths of a percent over the course of last month. That leaves Athens at an unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in September, compared to 2.7 percent this time last year.

The labor force increased by 1,755 and the number of employed residents also rose by 2,408, while the number of unemployment claims decreased by 83.

Athens ended September with 102,500 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 1,600 from August to September and rose by 3,900 when compared to this time last year.
