Athens-Clarke County Seeks Public Input on Newton Bridge Tax District Improvements

Nicole Jordan

The Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Department is seeking out public input on potential improvements to the Newtown Bridge Tax Allocation District. Two open house sessions will take place and an online survey will be available throughout November for residents to share opinions on items they would like to see constructed in the district.

The Newton Bridge Road TAD consists of 165 property parcels located northwest of downtown Athens and is used as a redevelopment tool to finance costs related to development in public infrastructure, demolition, utilities, and planning costs. The open house sessions will take place on Tuesday, November 7 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Athens Cotton Press (149 Oneta Street) and Thursday, November 9 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Terrapin Beer Co. (265 Newton Bridge Road).

Residents can drop in anytime during the open houses to learn more about the TAD process and provide input on ideas for community improvements.

An online survey will be available at www.accgov.com/tads through December 1 for those who cannot attend the sessions.
