accpd

Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating two separate vehicle crashes on Commerce Road on Tuesday evening that left one victim dead and others injured. This incident is the 17th fatal crash in the county this year, resulting in 18 deaths.

A driver in a Chevy Malibu identified as Jasmine Littlejohn pulled out in front of a semi-truck heading north on Commerce Road at around 5:40pm, according to an ACCPD press release. The semi-truck driver Quentin Williams was not injured and crossed the street on foot to a Shell Gas station. Shortly after, a co-worker of Williams joined him at the gas station and the two decided to walk back across the road to check on the driver of the Malibu. Both Williams and his co-worker Robert White were hit by a Chevy Tahoe traveling on Commerce Road in the process of crossing.

EMS transported Williams to the hospital after the second collision where he died of his injuries. Littlejohn suffered serious injuries from the first crash and was transported to a local hospital where she is in critical condition. White and a passenger in Littlejohn’s vehicle both were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

ACCPD asks anyone with information on the crashes to contact Sergeant Schulte at Robert.Schulte@accgov.com/ 762-400-7093.
