Georgia's Tech Colleges See 10.6% Enrollment from Demand for Affordable, Quick Career Paths

Athens Technical College

Big enrollment jumps are being reported at Georgia’s technical colleges with nearly 105,000 enrolling this fall at the system’s 22 institutions. That represents a 10.6% jump from the same point a year ago.

Greg Dozier, commissioner of the Technical College System says he expects enrollment to continue to grow as parents and students seek less expensive and quicker-to-completion alternatives to a college degree.

Students have also been drawn to technical colleges because of the HOPE Career Grant which offers no-cost tuition for programs that provide training for jobs in high-demand fields such as aviation, automotive and construction technologies, practical nursing, and early childhood care.

The biggest issue now facing the technical college system is finding instructors to fill an increasing number of positions.
