ACC Publishes Tiered Plan To Address Homelessness During Winter Weather

Nighttime temperatures are predicted to fall well below freezing for the next several nights. The Athens-Clarke County Government has published details of homelessness resources that become available when extreme weather hits.

According to the city manager’s office, the county is currently at Tier One of its planned response, which is triggered when the temperature dips below 35 degrees.  This means that two community organizations, Bigger Vision and the Salvation Army, have expanded their services to 139 beds. Commissioner Jesse Houle says resources are still too few, but current proposals for funding may address the need.
