City of Commerce Patrol Officer Placed on Leave Amidst DUI Arrest Controversy

A City of Commerce patrol officer has been placed on administrative leave while the city and the GBI investigate the officer’s DUI cases. Those cases came under scrutiny after complaints were made about some of the arrests.

Police Chief Ken Harmon says the city has hired legal counsel for the review. Officer Jacob Wood, who’s been with the department since July of 2022, is on paid leave during the review. The GBI was bought in by the city to ensure transparency of the review.

GBI Agent Jessie Maddox, who is the agent in charge of the Athens office says they haven’t opened an official investigation…that depends on their review of the case…and that agents are still gathering information.
