Georgia House Bill aims to recognize Black Women’s History Month statewide

A new Georgia state house bill wants to designate the month of April as Black Women’s History Month statewide. House Special Rules Committee members plan to vote on the bill today, which states that the month-long observance would
commemorate and honor the contributions of Black women.

The City of Atlanta already declared April as Black Women’s History Month in 2016 after approval from the Atlanta City Council. The month was given a commendation the same year from Georgia governor at the time Nathan Deal.
The month is now recognized in communities across the country.
If passed, the recognition would follow federally recognized Black History Month in February and Women’s History Month in March.
