Laken Riley's father calls on Georgia Senate to pass legislation towards undocumented immigrants

Library of Congress

The father of Laken Riley is calling on the Georgia Senate to pass more stringent legislation that targets undocumented immigrants. The AJC reports that in a speech, Jason Riley asked senators to protect citizens from what he termed an illegal invasion.

He called Athens-Clarke County a sanctuary city and blamed the policy and a lack of action for the murder of his daughter, although Mayor Girtz has taken exception with sanctuary city designation. Laken Riley’s murder ignited a flurry of political talking points and immigration legislation, including House Bill 1105 which would withhold federal and state funding from sheriffs who refuse to report undocumented detainees and prisoners to immigration and customs enforcement.
