Cedar Shoals secures $135,000 GDE grant to hire additional school counselor for at-risk students

Cedar Shoals High School

Cedar Shoals High School has secured a $135,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Education's program GRASP (Graduates Ready to Attain Success in Postsecondary Success), aimed at enhancing students' academic success, postsecondary completion, and workforce readiness. It marks the second consecutive year Cedar Shoals has received this funding, which supports the hiring of an additional school counselor to assist at-risk students.

Dr. Angela Thomas, the GRASP counselor, will join the Student Review Team to create interventions and identify resources to help students overcome barriers to graduation. The program involves personalized goal setting, intensive mentoring, and subject-specific tutoring. It also includes workshops, parent events, and student sessions to engage caregivers and faculty in supporting students' academic and personal growth. The initiative will begin transitioning at-risk rising ninth-graders in March 2025.
