Warnock, Ossoff, and colleagues push bill to expand healthcare coverage between Medicaid and ACA

Georgians who make too much to go on Medicaid but not enough to qualify for the Affordable Care Act may see relief under a bill proposed by US Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. WUGA’s Mary Ryan Howarth explains.

Georgia is one of a handful of mostly Southern states that have a so-called coverage gap between the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, caused by the state’s refusal to expand Medicaid. Warnock and Ossoff’s proposal, the Bridge to Medicaid Act, would allow people in that coverage gap to receive subsidized private healthcare.

People in the coverage gap and people who cannot afford insurance on the Marketplace for three years qualify for support. People in states like Georgia, that have not expanded Medicaid, who are making between 100 percent and 138 percent of the federal property level, also qualify for these subsidies and plans.

According to an interview with GPB, Warnock aims to include the bridge to Medicaid act in a larger package of legislation next year.
