ACC courthouse closes to public after bedbug infestation

Athens-Clarke County

The Athens-Clarke County Courthouse is closed temporarily due to bedbugs.

The courthouse will be closed until Monday, July 29 in order to treat the building for bed bugs. Superior Court Judge Lisa Lott issued a judicial emergency order on Monday to close the facility, cancel jury trials and hearings, and suspend many judicial activities. Bed bugs were found in areas of three levels and the recommended treatment involves closing and treating the entire facility.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bed bugs are not known to spread disease and do not usually pose a serious medical threat.

The Courthouse parking deck will remain open. Acting ACC Manager Niki Jones has also closed workstations for non-judicial offices in the Courthouse.
