14-year-old School Shooting Suspect Identified

Authorities have identified the suspect in the Winder school shooting as 14-year-old Colt Gray. They say Gray is being charged with murder and will be tried as an adult. Gray is a student at Apalachee High School.
During a press conference, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said once he was confronted by armed School Resource Officers, Gray laid on the floor and gave up immediately.
Smith said Gray has been interviewed by Barrow County deputies and GBI agents.
He addressed reporters regarding the incident.
“I never imagined that I would be speaking to the media in my career over something that happened today, the pure evil that happened today,” Smith said. “This hits home for me, I was born and raised here, I went to school in this school system, my kids go to this school system.”

Barrow County School Superintendent Dr. Dallas LeDuff said all county schools will remain closed for the remainder of the week. He also said grief counseling will be available for community members who need it. The district’s central offices will remain open.
Authorities have confirmed four dead, two students and two teachers, in addition to nine others injured in the shooting.
